Popocatépetl was known as a great warrior within the Aztec lands, captain of a tribe under the Chief of all Aztecs. Popocatépetl loved the Chief’s daughter, Iztaccíhuatl, but had to go to war before he could marry her. A warrior vying for Iztaccíhuatl’s affections sent a false letter to the Chief, saying Popocatépetl had died in battle. Iztaccíhuatl became distraught and wasted away, refusing to eat or sleep out of grief. When Popocatépetl returned from battle he was shocked when he found his love had died. Heartbroken, Popocatépetl took Iztaccíhuatl to a nearby mountain, building a funeral pyre for her. He climbed on top with Iztaccíhuatl, lit it, and stabbed himself in the heart with his dagger as they both burned. The Aztec gods took pity on the lovers and turned them into volcanoes, allowing them close to each other forever on the Mexican landscape.

Imbued with the fires of love and death, the Dagger allows the wielder to control Fire, as well as allowing him extra strength in battle through the well-crafted blade.
